In 1892, Walt Whitman dieds of miliary tuberculosis. On September 30, 1864, Whitman's brother George was captured by Confederates in Virginia, and another brother, Andrew Jackson, died of tuberculosis compounded by alcoholism on December 3 of that year. Whitman's sexuality is often discussed alongside his poetry. He is usually described as either homosexual or bisexual in his feelings and attractions.
