My name is Jing Yu .I am study Engineering in Ohio State University. My poem speaks about a tree in elementary school when I was a kid. This is the first poem I have written since I moved here, and I think it is not so hard to write a poem if you try.

Tree

Tree tree green and tall
the leaf and the twig
absorbing
the rain and sun
expanding it branch
growing
as time past
the leaf fall
but is tall
the tall tree will never fall

tree tree green and tall
like a shelter
the shadow we like
wind whistle
and the sun
we sit beneath

tree tree green and tall
like a old man
struggle against the nature
in a rainstorm
the tree fall
but the soul
the adamancy and indomitable
will never fall

The poem is about my birth country (Somalia) where a bloody civil war plunged the nation into chaos, and forced large numbers of people to flee into neighboring countries.
The poem consists of different scenes where I describe the effects of draught, the careless politicians, the warring factions, and the blood thirsty thugs who roamed the streets preying on innocent people in search of their next victim(s).

Disowned

I lived where
Rain was rare and life unfair
I lived where
The politicians showed little care
I lived where
All was wrong and unfair
I lived where
People died in crossfire
Between factions
Who refused to cease fire

I lived where
I was chased by my own
For reasons unknown
I lived where
I was all alone
I lived where
The streets were flooded
With cold blooded reptiles
Hungry for blood
Like killer crocodiles

The day

My name is Kara. I study Business Administration in Ohio States University. The subject that I used for this poem was the day I came to United States and it was also the inspired in this poem because that day was a special day for me. I do not think this poem was difficult to write because I just wrote about my feeling of that day. I wrote this poem because I want to sure my feeling of that day.

The day

The day I came to United States,
And I like a little child.
I came to a new place,
And have a new life.

The day I came,
And the day I leave.
I started my new life,
And I hoped that was good.

The day I came,
I miss the members of my memory.
I miss the place that I live,
And the people that I like.

The day I came,
My life like a new book I start to write.
I started to learn a new culture,
Everything was new for me.

The day I came,
The day I start to write the book.
And who knows
The length of my book.
How exciting the book will be.

Six Feet Under....

My name is Hassan Aden and am leaning towards PreMed or Physician assistant. I chose a specific moment, Because this person touched my life when she passed away in 07. The person that inspired my poem was my aunt Fosiya. I love reading poems but this is my first time am writing one. It was kind of difficult. Because i had to think about what my next line was going to be. Overall, it took me about 5hrs to write it!!

I was walking along a quiet place
Lots of weeds and graves I face
Flowers grow peacefully with grace
Six feet under, they await their case
Each grave there, has a story to tell
Of the time they're alive and well
Of the living earth, they did dwell
Of the time they rose or fell
They saw the sun set at the shore
Birds fly high, they heard and saw
Their families, they all cared for
Like us, they're once alive before
Love and loved, they once felt the glow
life. They're there, not too long ago
But now they're dead and buried below
Graves tell their stories, row by row
Depends on their faith, low or high
The dead may smile or painfully cry
Now six feet under, alone they lie
It's the beginning for those who die
.

Perfect Angel

My name is Courtney and I am studying athletic training at Ohio State. I chose a specific moment in my life, I chose it because this person touched my life when she left the world. The person that inspired my poem was my friend Brandi Griffin. I have very little experience with poetry. This poem was not hard to write because this girl was amazing and everything comes to mind when I think of her. Poetry is a way of expressing feelings for something.

Perfect Angel
There you are flying high in the sky
You send down rays of sunshine
Doves fly whenever you’re around
As time goes by
Everyone remembers how you graced us:
Your smile, your beauty and your personality
Touched each one of us.

You’re in a better place now
You have everything you could ever want.
The doves fly every month on the 20th
Most people wear purple in your remembrance,
You are the most loving angel anyone could have.

Brandi you will never be forgotten.
Keep shining down on us.

My name is shire Farah. I am studying health science at the Ohio State University. The subject I used for this poem was about life. How two different types of people can have two different ways of living and how one does not have to earn his way to success while the other does. I like writing poems. I use to write peoms as a young child and I like to do this because it helps you just write about anything that has a meaning.
Both Sides of the Circle of Life
You Strive for life only one time
Either you are born at the top
And live the easy life blind
Or you start at the bottom
And wait for your turn in this long line
When you are at the top
You live as if you were a king
You just don't know how to make a living off of tying knots
But when the bee stings, you mind will cling and then you will start to think
When you start at the bottom You work so hard to reach somewhere
You only have one goal but you do not know when it will come
Instead, you sweat without credit while you always dream and stare
One having to work hard
Is different from
One being four or five cars
Life has two sides
You Either strive and cry
Like a bird that can not fly
Or
You sleep while the money piles up to the sky

My name is Olivia Golden. I wrote this poem to inform you, my fellow classmates on the most special moment of my life. This special moment took place at 2:36am, on July 24, 2010. This special moment was the birth of my son. Jaiden is now 7 months old. He is the air I breathe and person I live for. Jaiden is…. my everything.

JAIDEN RYAN

Friday, the end of the week
For me the end of 37
Anxious and ready
I headed to the hospital all bags in hand
I arrive and check in
To be induced that is
Directed into a room
Where I would now be
Until 24 minutes until three
Process was somewhat long
Couldn’t wait for the end
Shortly after the process began

The doc said push
I did just that
But not until they gave me an epidural in my back
Everything went so fast
As fast as a race
Where Jesse Owens won first place
It was all over
He was as cute as a baby chickadee
Many said he looked just like me
My baby
Yeah!

Spring should have being the beginning of the our calendar

Hi my name is ikran and I am here today to discuss about the beautiful weather that beginning this month. It is my favorite weather and everything will change a beautiful it’s is good weather to show up and dress up and it’s much fun.
Spring is the season where live sprung from the ground
People will shed off the burden of heavy dressing, and
Will grow the courage to go out again lightly dressed
And the trees will grew colorful buds that will become leaves

The smell, the color and the sight of spring are feast to the eyes,
The season melts the snow; rains make the grass re-grow,
And the weather gives colorful sight to those padding plants,
Fresh and beautiful everything will look; even blind will cry for sight,
And long to see the sight of the spring.

How much it will change if it were the beginning of the calendar,
Beginning of everything and past pain will be thawed by the new beginning,
Pain will go with the melting snow, padding flower will means new life await
To be gained, why should the year beginning at the January which is in the middle
Of the snow, and no one celebrate the beginning of the spring which is the time,
Everything regain new strength and worthy of celebration,
How much of an effort will it take changing New Year date from January to match?
How much it will change us all if this becomes true? Spring the beginning of new life
and new year-feast to the eyes and worthy of feast to mark the day

I Walk Alone

Introduction by Batulo

I Walk Alone

I walk alone
Feeling the warm red soil on my feet
Forgetting my long depressing day
Finding a place close to shade
I walk alone
Feeling lost and tired
Forgetting where I am heading to
Finding a place close to peace
I walk alone
Hearing the river flow slowly and the sound of birds returning home
Feeling depressed and angry
Forgetting about the ones who love me
Finding a place of my own.
I walk alone
I walk alone till the day I die
Forgetting that pain is temporary
Feeling that love never finds me
I walk alone.

The Sun Set

Hello my name is Will James and I’m studying computer science and engineering at The Ohio State University. I chose to write about a sunset because I love nature and being outdoors. What really inspired me to write this poem was the love I have for experiencing some of Mother Nature’s most beautiful scenic views. I don’t have a lot of experience because this is the first poem I have ever written. So for that reason this poem is very difficult to write because it’s hard to express your ideas in a creative way for me. I think poetry is the most unique and creative way for expressing ones ideas.

The Sun Set

The sun has set at home.
The children playing mischievously,
Disperse just when the sun does.
While the hard working man,
Returns home just in time for supper.

The beautiful birds blabbering all night,
Remind me it time for bed.
The crazy crickets chippering all night,
Remind me it’s time for bed.

But I can’t let this moment pass.
So peaceful and bliss of a night,
Watching the sun disperse behind the trees,
The sun has set at home.

Top Thrill Dragster

I was inspired to do this poem because it was my first time on a roller coaster and decided to tackle for the most one the biggest and most intense one in the US, if not the world. It was a completely different feeling that I have never felt before and I loved it. It was so different and exhilarating that I could not believe. I definitely want to do it again and relieve it all.

Top Thrill Dragster

The eerie ecstatic sounds that travel through your ears
The feelings you get in your gut
Your trying not to burst into tears
And trying to not look like a nut

The Top Thrill Dragster is the best
Nothing in the world compares
Riding it is a massive feelings test
You feel the tingling in all your hairs

The coaster was a giant
It slowly seemed like a skyscraper piercing the sky
In the rollercoaster world it is defiant
The coaster is a rocket, you fly

Somalia, where I was born, once beautiful Country.

hello my name is muhubo suleiman iam studding nurs here at ohio state and i dedicated this poem to my lovely and once beautifully country.though i dont remembet match i still do remember peace and riches of my country.

I was born in once beautiful country,
Place where one can sniff the air through the aura of smell it carries
Place one can hear the wind whisper through the trees
Two rivers run through just like vein and artery in the body,
Infusing live along the edge of the country entire country

Small remote village, furthest end of the small valley
That divides the village into South and North,
The very edge where valley become forked,
On the right side of the first finger of those fork,
The high bank of that fork, I entered the world from there.

My mother never missed an opportunity to talk to me about that place,
The beauty of rising sun, arrow, red rays of falling one,
And sparkles of stars at moony night, beauty those memory evokes
Has no match to my mothers and they do make meaning for me too
Somalia, Somalia, Somalia is place I was born. Beautiful it has being,
But no so it is today and tomorrow, no one can say what it becomes for certain.

The land of freedom

Hello everyone my name is Lul Aden, i would like to share the wonderful experience i am having so far at the OSU university i am really learning a lot and getting used to the diversity of all the different cultures here. this poem that i recently wrote was my first poem to ever write and it was a bit had i will admit but once i just sat back and listen to my heart i decided to write about what i experienced back in my homeland.Of course this wasn't easy to write but with the help of my flash backs i did it. i really enjoyed writing my poem i wanted to keep writing for ever. Mr.Mike lore thank you for this wonderful opportunity it really helped me reconnect with my inside and be thankful of where i am and where I'm from. well that is it about me hope you guys enjoy this beautiful weather its already early spring have a good one everyone.

The land of freedom

The Land of Freedom

Green long wet grass on my feet

Getting anxious and excited by every step I take

Gaining flashbacks to all the unwanted memories

Growing closer to my dreamland in Africa

The land of freedom:

Getting the feeling of peace as I step on to a cold rock

Standing up straight and strong as a big beautiful green tree.

Getting ready for a new life as I spread my arms and spin around

Getting closer to my dreamland, Mogadishu

I close my eyes laying on the long wet grass

I close my eyes and see my future

Getting closer to my dreamland

Trees

My names Farah Dahir. And I am studying radiology at Ohio State University. I like reading poems, but I never write it before. This is an interesting experience for me to write poem. The subject I used for this poem was about trees. Trees are important in our lives because they give us food and oxygen. Here is my poem for trees.

Trees, our trees
Oh people, save our trees
Trees are beautiful as peacocks
I looked around and I looked around,
All I see is you being destroyed,
Trees are cut down
And burn by people
But only God can make trees

The leaves on the trees has tears that bleeds
You shelter me, you feed me
I thank you for that
Trees are important, as our lives
I cannot imagine, life without trees
Let our trees grow and be free
So that we can live a secure life
Trees, our trees
Oh people, save our trees

cheerleading poem

I'm Maria Fabbro and I'm undecided on my major. The subject I chose to write my poem on is cheerleading because option two was pick a specific moment in your life that stands out to you and when my team won our bid to worlds was one of the most important things that has happened to me. The momment when we won our bid was one of the proudest momments in my life, that is what inspired this poem. I dont have any experience with poetry, this is my first time writing a poem but I do enjoy reading poetry. This poem was a little diffacult because I like poetry that rymes so it took me a little while trying to make sure it rymed.
Cheer practice is where we come together as a team
we work hard so when its time for worlds we will do perfect and live our dream
we spend all year trying to improve our skills
we dedicate all of free time at the gym and eat healthy to stay slim
As a squad we shout, sing, spirit and strive
As soon as we get off the mat we give high fives

winning our bid to worlds was worth every practice that felt liek years
when they anounced we won our bid we all started to shed many tears
we jumped with joy, screamed and cheered
our parents joined and other teams thought it was weird

we didnt place when we competed at worlds but i learned that
you dont grow by how much you win
you grow by how much you put in
so any challenge youve just begun
put your best effort and you've already won

What you think

I made this poem to make sure that every one understands me as who I am even if they don’t get to talk to me but I decide to introduce my self and my attitude and the ways I like to treat with others. I like to live truth and be honest to every one as I like to be treated. For that every one gets respect, it will end any unwanted behavior. I am from a country called the poet land: Somalia, where people use poetry to send messages to each other and almost in every family there is one poet. English is not my first language nor I speak good English but I will try my best to deliver my message to you by this poem, as my elders did, and I hope every one will understand.

What You Think

Oh you who want to really know me
Search me not by nig names of me
For that could give you bad image of me
Not by my race, because all are same to me
I am Abdullahi and truth is a sign to find me

For I hope to know my self as not them,
But for me and the only difference is that is the truth.
Judge me not by my dreams, but my actions
Love me for my qualities and not by false

Image portrait by jealous enemies
Measure me by what I’m truly worth
For that alone shall build a better bridge of true friendship
Between us, and we shall stand tall side by side.

Emily Dickinson

painting of Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson was an American poet who was born to a very successful family. as of today, Dickinson is know as one of the American's greatest poets. since the women didn't have much of a freedom during her lifetime, only a few of her poems were published. what unique about her writing was her poems was written with out a tittle and her choice of words were precise. i like her poem of "if i can stop one heart from breaking" "i shall not live in vain" i liked this poem because i kind of feel like in this poem she is expressing herself as to what kind of person she is and she seems to me as person who suffered a lot of depression.
